 MEDITATION

`It is from Mahmud Shabistari, and it is called …God Wants The Heart.

Every particle of the world is a mirror,

in each atom lies the blazing light

of a thousand suns.

Cleave the heart of a rain - drop,

a hundred pure oceans will flow forth.

Look closely at a grain of sand,

the seed of a thousand beings can be seen.

Within the pulp of a millet seed

an entire universe can be found.

In the wing of a fly, an ocean of wonder;

In the pupil of the eye, an endless heaven.

Though the inner chamber of the heart is small,

The Lord of both worlds gladly makes His home there.

.........

There was something formless yet complete

That existed before heaven and earth;

Without sound, without substance,

Dependent on nothing, unchanging,

All pervading, unfailing,

One may think of it as the Mother of all things under heaven

Its true name we do not know

Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world.

The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same,

Every wonderful sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade,

But do not be disheartened,

The source they come from is eternal, growing,

Branching out, giving new life and new joy,

Why do you weep?

The source is within you

And this whole world is springing up from it.

I have just three things to teach:

Simplicity, patience, compassion.

These three are your greatest treasures.

Simple in actions and thoughts,

you return to the source of being.

Patient with both friends and enemies,

You accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself,

You reconcile all beings in the world.

`Tao The King` by Lao Tzu.
